Tourism in New York

New York is filled with iconic places that attract tourists. For example, the Statue of Liberty is a statue of a female figure, named Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom. During 2017, 61.8 million tourists came across New York to visit some of the world's most recognized places. One of them being called, Times Square. The Time Square is one of the most visited streets of New York and it hosts live performances every New Year's Eve. Last year, Times Square New Year's Eve performers include Mariah Carey, Nick Jonas, and Camila Cabello. With these honorable performers coming each year to perform, Times Square still holds the title of The Most Visited Street of New York. According to the New York Times, in 2019, tourism in New York is expected to rise to 68.9 million, breaking record by record each year. Can New York continue to break the tourism record?

Dog Flu Outbreak in New York

Currently, in New York, the dog flu has gone crazy and is spreading fast. More than 3 dozen dogs in New York have been infected with H3N2, also known as canine influenza, already. Moca was one of the many victims. Moca is a 9 year-old Labrador retriever. After being infected, she stopped eating food, and also developed heavy coughing. Dog owners in New York have become concerned with the situation. Hopefully, this dog flu outbreak will soon come to a stop.

New York Taxi Driver Commits Suicide

New York taxi driver, Yu Mein Chow, was found dead. His body was found floating in the East River. In just a span of  5 months, this was the fifth time a New York taxi driver has taken his/her own life. Andrew Cuomo, governor of New York, is now seeing this as a more serious problem. With the creation of the uber app, taxi drivers earn less and less each year. Citizens tend to prefer uber over taxis due to a lower cost. Yu Mein Chow had invested a lot into becoming a taxi driver. He bought a $700,000 medallion that gave him the right to operate a cab. Something must be done about this issue.
